press conference

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Edmonton, AB — On September 3rd, the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce will kick off a busy municipal election by unveiling the candidates invited to its televised 2025 Mayoral Debate and launching a comprehensive fall engagement program for Edmonton’s business community.

Hosted in the lobby of the World Trade Centre Edmonton (9990 Jasper Ave NW), the press conference will outline four flagship initiatives designed to put business conditions at the center of the civic conversation:

  • Municipal Action Plan: The Chamber’s Municipal Action Plan will set out clear priorities for the next City Council: keep taxes and spending sustainable, invest in infrastructure that delivers value, build a city that attracts talent and customers, and create conditions that unlock private investment.
  • Edmonton Chamber Mayoral Debate, presented by Lloyd Sadd | Navacord:  Friday, September 12 at the JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District, televised in partnership with Global Edmonton. Candidates were selected through independent polling conducted by Léger.
  • All-Candidates Meet-and-Greet: Friday, September 26, 9:00–11:00 a.m., an open networking event connecting Edmonton businesses with council and mayoral candidates.
  • State of the Economy: Tuesday, October 14 at 11:00 a.m., a new signature data report and event benchmarking the Edmonton region’s performance on growth, labour, and affordability.

“This is about giving Edmonton businesses a real voice in the future of our city. Through our fall programming, we’re putting the issues that matter most to businesses — taxes, infrastructure, competitiveness, and investment — front and centre. The mayoral debate, our Action Plan, and our upcoming events are all designed to show how decisions at City Hall will shape Edmonton’s economy for years to come.” - Doug Griffiths, President & CEO

“This election will set the course for Edmonton’s future. The choices we make now must lead to smart investments that grow our city, attract talent and capital, and create the conditions for lasting wealth and opportunity." - Heather Thompson, Vice President, Economy & Engagement

“Our role is to connect businesses directly with the people who want to lead our city. This fall, that means front-row access through the mayoral debate, our all-candidates meet-and-greet, and a full slate of election programming. None of it happens without our partners, and I’m thrilled to see the energy and collaboration building around this election season.” - Laura Kinghorn, Vice President, Community Relations & Partnerships

The Edmonton Chamber represents more than 2,000 member organizations employing over 150,000 people across the region. The September 3 announcement underscores the Chamber’s role as a non-partisan convener, committed to creating the conditions that allow businesses to invest, grow, and succeed in Edmonton.
