The City’s business census data can help your business grow!
Submitted by Name, City of Edmonton
The data from the City of Edmonton’s third annual business census is now live, and it shows a vibrant and inclusive local economy.
This by-Edmonton, for-Edmonton information helps the City shape services around the changing needs of our business community so our entrepreneurs have the right support to continue building the community, creating jobs and driving the economy.
Curious how this can help your business? Use it to find local suppliers to reduce costs, map out competitors to find the best new location or spot trends that can support your expansion goals. Really, the opportunities are endless!
In 2025, information was collected from across the entire city, identifying 29,894 businesses, which employed 575,197 people. Small businesses – those with fewer than 100 employees – accounted for 97 per cent of all businesses surveyed. Home-based businesses were not included. Retail, services (barbers, beauty shops, mechanics, etc.), accommodation and food services, real estate and rental and health care and social assistance comprise the city’s largest industries. Combined, these sectors represent 62 per cent of all businesses in the city and provide 43 per cent of jobs.
The census data is compiled each year from May to August, so keep an eye out and count your business in for 2026. You can learn more and see the year-over-year numbers at edmonton.ca/BusinessCensus
