Easing travel restrictions good for business.

19 July 2021

Today the Government of Canada announced easing restrictions for vaccinated travellers from the United States, and announced the Edmonton International Airport would reopen for international flights effective August 9, 2021.

“A strong economy requires a strong airport.” said Jeffrey Sundquist, President and CEO of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, “Allowing EIA to resume international flights will ensure Edmonton businesses can efficiently move their people, products and services effectively to markets around the globe. Robust air service is a key driver for investment attraction and business retention.”

“We will work with our partners at EIA to help attract U.S. and international flights back to Edmonton, as airlines work to establish their flight schedules following today’s announcement.” said Sundquist, “Edmonton’s business community looks forward to supporting the investments that airlines are making at our airport.”

“The United States is Alberta’s largest tourism market—over 1.2 million visitors travelled between the U.S. and Alberta each year before COVID forced us all to limit travel.” said Sundquist, “Reopening the border for vaccinated travellers will bring a major boost for our members who rely on tourism—this is great news for our ongoing economic recovery.”
