Edmonton Chamber welcomes Mayor Andrew Knack and Edmonton’s new City Council
The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce extends its warmest congratulations to Mayor Andrew Knack and all members of Edmonton’s newly elected City Council.
This new Council begins its term at an exciting and pivotal moment for Edmonton. With new leadership and a renewed sense of purpose, there’s a real opportunity to strengthen confidence in our city’s future, accelerate economic growth, and make Edmonton the best place in Canada to live, work, and build a business.
Through the Chamber’s Municipal Action Plan, we’ve outlined 14 practical recommendations to improve Edmonton’s competitiveness, from restoring fiscal discipline and modernizing permitting to investing in core infrastructure and supporting downtown recovery.
“This new Council has an opportunity to set Edmonton on a bold new path,” said Doug Griffiths, President and CEO of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. “We need to see a stronger commitment to disciplined fiscal management, faster infrastructure delivery, and renewed competitiveness. The Chamber calls on the City Council to establish a Mayor’s Fiscal Task Force within their first 90 days. This is essential for charting a path to a financially sustainable city.”
The Chamber also extends its gratitude to former Mayor Amarjeet Sohi for his dedication and public service over the past four years. Leading one of Canada’s largest and fastest-growing cities demands focus, persistence, and a strong sense of public duty. His leadership through challenging economic and social conditions helped maintain stability and continuity in civic governance.
We look forward to building a strong partnership with Mayor Knack and Council to bring those ideas to life and shape a city that works for people, business, and the economy alike. On behalf of Edmonton’s business community, congratulations, and welcome.
