EDMONTON, AB – The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce welcomes today’s historic agreement between Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier Danielle Smith. This level of cooperation is a powerful signal for Alberta’s business community, showing governments working together to advance projects that strengthen our competitive edge, diversify export markets and reinforce Canada’s position as a global energy leader.

For decades, 95 percent of Canada’s energy exports have gone to a single trade partner. A clear pathway to a privately financed pipeline, supported by coordinated federal and provincial cooperation, opens the door to new global markets and sends a strong signal to investors that Alberta is ready to lead.

“Today’s announcement shows what happens when governments work together to put jobs, growth and prosperity first. This relationship is good for business and good for Alberta families,” said Doug Griffiths, President and CEO of the Edmonton Chamber, “When we open new markets, build major projects and create the right conditions for investment, we make Alberta the greatest place in the country to live, work and build a future. Alberta succeeds when we work together, and this agreement moves us forward with real purpose.”

Key Economic Wins From This Agreement

  • More than sixteen billion dollars added to Canada’s GDP each year
  • More than forty thousand jobs created annually
  • Direct access to fast-growing Asian markets
  • Stronger pricing power for Alberta producers
  • Greater investor confidence and planning certainty
  • Faster, simpler approvals for major projects
  • More competitive conditions for data centers, AI, advanced manufacturing and carbon capture

Taken together, these commitments point to a more competitive Alberta, stronger investor confidence, and a clearer environment for business leaders to plan, invest and grow.

“This agreement gives industry something they’ve been asking for: clarity. A predictable path forward builds confidence, encourages long-term investment and helps companies make the decisions that strengthen Alberta’s entire economy,” continued Doug Griffiths, “When business have certainty, Alberta wins.”
