Edmonton Chamber Welcomes West Coast Oil Pipeline (Pacific Link) Designation as a Major Step for Market Access, Investment and Economic Growth

Statements and Press Releases (6)

EDMONTON, AB – October 1, 2026 – The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce welcomes today’s decision to move the West Coast Oil Pipeline, now known as Pacific Link, forward as a project of national interest. This is good news for Edmonton, good news for Alberta and good news for Canada’s economy.

Alberta has the energy the world needs. The Pacific Link would help us sell more of it to more customers around the world, bringing new investment, jobs and economic activity back home.

Edmonton is especially well positioned to benefit. The pipeline would begin near Bruderheim, just outside Edmonton, putting our region at the starting point of one of Canada’s largest proposed energy projects. Building and operating a project of this size means more work for Edmonton-area businesses, from construction and engineering to manufacturing, transportation and other local services.

The Government of Canada estimates Pacific Link could add more than $20 billion to Canada’s economy each year and support 140,000 jobs across the country.

“This is a big economic opportunity for Edmonton,” said Doug Griffiths, President and CEO of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. “We have the energy, the people and the businesses to help power Canada’s growth. Pacific Link would give Alberta access to more customers around the world, bring new investment into our economy and create more opportunities for Edmonton businesses and workers.”

For Canada, this is also about having more choices. Selling more Canadian energy to markets outside the United States means we are less dependent on one customer and better positioned to grow our economy for the long term.

The Edmonton Chamber looks forward to seeing Pacific Link continue moving toward construction and creating new opportunities for businesses, workers and communities across Alberta.
