Edmonton Chamber of Commerce extends condolences to military community following CFB Wainwright tragedy

Statements and Press Releases (9)

Oct 19, 2026 – The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce extends our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the four Canadian Armed Forces members who lost their lives. Our thoughts are also with the injured, their families and everyone affected by this tragedy.

In Edmonton, the military is part of who we are. Service members, civilian staff, and their families are our neighbours, colleagues, friends, and family. Many of those affected serve with units based right here in our city, and this loss is felt deeply across our community. We know our military community is grieving together, and we are thinking of you all, especially those with ties to the soldiers and units involved.

The Canadian Armed Forces is also a vital part of our region’s economy. The people who serve here, the families who build their lives here, and the businesses that support them help make Edmonton the strong, resilient city it is. Our business community is proud to stand alongside them.

We are also grateful to the first responders, firefighters, health-care workers and the people of Wainwright who responded with courage and care in the most difficult circumstances.

To honour everyone affected, the flags on the World Trade Centre Building Edmonton will be flown at half-mast.
